Proposals to alter the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act have not had much attention, but they could have a damaging effect on how associations are governed and regulated, warns Paul Hackett
Ask a sample of housing association employees what the biggest changes the sector is likely to experience over the coming years are and you’ll get some predictable answers.
Awaab’s Law would feature prominently. So too would the introduction of Decent Homes Standard Two.
My guess is that very few would mention possible changes to the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act. And that would be no great surprise since the changes proposed by the Law Commission have mostly flown below the sector’s radar.
