Community-centric development models have a role to play in unlocking development, which is why Aster is working with them, writes Amanda Williams
Solving the UK’s chronic housing challenge is about recognising and catering for the hugely varied requirements that must be met across the country and a blanket approach will not suffice. So, it’s of no surprise that the introduction of local planning targets has evolved into such a contentious issue.
Instead, new developments must be versatile and, most importantly, be planned, designed and built with the local community in mind. One way in which this can be delivered is through more community ownership and involvement in housing development, which is why we have long championed the use of community land trusts (CLTs).
