The passing of the controversial bill last month was a step towards wider reform. It is now time to prepare for the bigger changes to come, says Nattasha Freeman
On 29 April we saw the Fire Safety Bill – now the Fire Safety Act 2021 – finally receive Royal Assent. The political debate around the bill has been dominated by unsuccessful efforts in parliament to agree on new clauses that would protect leaseholders from contributing to what could be substantial costs associated with cladding remediation.
While work to identify alternative sources of funding will continue, the passing of the bill is an early step towards much wider-ranging reform.
