Two-thirds of councils at risk of failing to balance housing budgets by 2029/30, survey finds

Meanwhile, 71% of surveyed councils expect to cancel, pause or delay housing schemes to balance figures by decade-end

Research conducted by Southwark Council found that 67% of surveyed local authorities report a risk they will be unable to present a balanced Housing Revenue Account (HRA) budget for the 2029/30 financial year.

The report published today indicated the actions that councils have already had to take to get their finances back on track as well as potential future measures.
