Planning reform in the year ahead – a lot to do but the signs are promising
Paul Smith describes the current planning reform landscape and finds positivity in the government’s general direction of travel
The latest planning statistics make grim reading for a Labour government trying to increase housing delivery. The number of new homes granted planning permission is at it’s lowest level for a decade. Just seven out of 10 applications for new homes were approved last year, a 7% drop on the year before.
