On-site work has kicked off on a 14-storey residential tower in Woolwich, south-east London, for Notting Hill Genesis, which the housing association said would feature 100% affordable homes.

Contractor Higgins is designing and building the £21m block (pictured), which will deliver one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, 28 of which will be London-living-rent homes and the remaining 47 will be shared-ownership.

The block is being built beside the River Thames on the site of a former pub and work is expected to finish in October 2021.

It will feature commercial space plus large communal areas including a landscaped residents’ deck and car parking underneath.

Jo Palmer, assistant development director for Notting Hill Genesis, said affordable housing was desperately needed in the area.

“We are pleased to have Higgins on board and starting on site and we look forward to providing more fantastic homes and public spaces in this part of London.”

Notting Hill Genesis, which was formed 12 months ago via a merger between Notting Hill Housing and Genesis Housing Association, owns 55,000 properties across London and a further 9,000 in the home counties and East Anglia.

Higgins is currently working with Notting Hill Genesis on developments in Chelmsford and Peckham.
