Mikhail Riches among seven firms picked for huge Olympic Park homes plan
Stirling Prize-winning architect Mikhail Riches has been selected alongside six other practices to design 1,500 homes in the former Olympic Park in East London.
The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) said Mikhail Riches Architects, which earlier this month won architecture’s most prestigious prize for its 105-home Goldsmith Street development in Norwich, will work alongside others to draw up plans for the Pudding Mill neighbourhood in the south of the Olympic Park.
The selection followed a competition for two sites in the area, the 600-home Bridgewater site and the 900-home Pudding Mill Lane site. Mikhail Riches will work with RCKa, William Matthews Architects and BBUK Landscape Architects on the Bridgwater scheme while Gort Scott, 5th Studio and Jonathan Cook Landscape Architects will work on the larger Pudding Mill Lane scheme.
The schemes will also include workspace for 2,000 jobs.
According to LLDC, 40% of the homes will be affordable, with all homes achieved Code for Sustainable Homes level 4+.
Annalie Riches, founding director of Mikhail Riches, said the “family focused” scheme could go even further, aiming to be “virtually car free” and achieve zero carbon.
Jay Gort, director at Gort Scott Architects, said: “For years our practice has been fascinated by the challenge of how to make successful mixed-use neighbourhoods, and this is proving to be a great project to build on our experience and research.”
Pudding Mill marks the third phase of housing development on the site, following schemes at Chobham Manor, and East Wick and Sweetwater.
