Strategic land firm Carden Group submits plans for 1,000-home garden village scheme in Devon
A brand new strategic land business backed by Redrow founder Steve Morgan has put in its first planning application, for a 1,000-home garden village development on a 220-acre site near Exeter.
Carden Group said it had submitted outline planning for 1,035 homes on the Treasbeare Farm site near Cranbrook to East Devon District Council.
Plans include proposals for a neighbourhood centre, a primary school, open space, employment land and an extension to the existing Cranbrook Energy Centre. The scheme will include 15% affordable housing, as well as custom and self-build housing.
Carden Group was set up earlier this month by Morgan alongside former Redrow collaborator Will Heath – previously group development director at the housebuilder, and Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, landowner and former director of Taylor Wimpey.
Will Heath, who is acting as chief executive of the business, said the submission of planning was a “major milestone” for the new firm. He said: “Treasbeare Garden Village is a landmark scheme and the fact that it’s such a substantial site is reflective of the company’s pedigree, experience and expertise.”
The firm said it was also “close” to acquiring two further sites, which between them would deliver a further 1,100 homes.
Steve Morgan and Will Heath already work closely together, with Heath also acting as CEO of Morgan’s investment firm Bridgemere Capital, and Heath chairing North west-based housebuilder Castle Green, which is owned by Bridgemere.
Morgan founded £1.9bn turnover Redrow in 1974 and left the business for the final time in March 2019, and was this year ranked 210 on the Sunday Times’ UK rich list, with an estimated wealth of £789m.
