26-home development will make a ‘dramatic difference’ to Ramsgate’s conservation district

Ramsgate

Thanet council plans to start work this summer on a £5m social housing development in Ramsgate which the local authority said would boost the town’s conservation area.

The council will build a total of 26 homes for social rent across two sites in the Kent coastal town, on Sussex Street and King Street.

The King Street scheme will feature 14 three- and four-bedroom flats in a four-storey block and four two-bedroom mews houses on a site previously occupied by a garage building.

On nearby Sussex Street six two-bedroom flats will be built in two blocks, together with two three-bedroom houses.

A spokesperson for Thanet council said the King Street scheme was “particularly exciting as it will make a dramatic difference to the conservation area and street scene generally”.

WW Martin, a local contractor, has been appointed to build the homes and construction is expected to start in June.
