Wrekin Housing Group and Housing Plus enter discussions about a “potential legal partnership”

Two housing associations which operate in Shropshire and Staffordshire have announced they are in merger discussions.

A spokesperson for Wrekin Housing Group said: ”Wrekin Housing Group and Housing Plus Group are proposing to come together as one organisation. During the past few months, we have been looking at how we might bring our two organisations closer together to create a stronger presence that will benefit our customers, employees and communities.

”In the longer-term though, both housing associations believe that coming together will let us do more for all our customers. The move will allow us to balance keeping costs down while investing more in the services we deliver, doing more to make homes energy-efficient and having a positive impact on the local economy.”

He stressed that there wll be no changes to existing tenancy or lease agreements and residents will be able to have their say in the coming weeks.

Wrekin Housing Group is based in Telford, Shropshire

A merger of the two groups would create a landlord with more than 32,000 homes and a turnover of more than £200m.

Wrekin Housing Group, based in Shropshire has a turnover of £103m, and manages around 13,200 homes. It completed 479 homes in 2022/23.

Housing Plus Group, which has its head office in Staffordshire, is a similar size with a turnover of £111m. It built 176 homes in 2022/23.
