15-strong group will help shape capital’s housing policy
London mayor Sadiq Kahn has teamed up with charitable foundation Trust for London to recruit people to join a new panel that aims to shape housing policy across the capital.
The new 15-strong London Housing Panel will be made up of representatives from a range of groups including social housing tenants, homeless households, leaseholders, students and private renters.
Appointments will be announced in June, with the panel’s first session due to take place later that month.
Khan said the panel would set its own agenda, which could include estate regeneration, the private rented sector, or students’ experience of housing in the capital.
The panel will receive £60,000 to fund its activities, with funding split between the mayor’s office and Trust for London.
The chair of the panel will join Khan’s Homes for Londoners board to represent its views.
James Murray, deputy mayor for housing and residential development, said: “All the mayor’s housing policies have benefited from the input of tenants, campaigners, and other Londoners in developing them.
“The new London Housing Panel will help give organisations a formal way to feed their views into our thinking at City Hall, and I look forward to it being up and running soon.”
