Thomas Karlsson appointed to AXA-owned developer and operator which is looking to build 5,000 homes over a decade
Retirement Villages Group (RVG) has hired a former cruise ship boss to become its new Chief Operating Officer.
RVG, which operates 2000 self-contained homes from 16 sites across the country, has announced the appointment of Thomas Karlsson, who will join the group’s executive team.
He has more than two decades of experience in the cruise industry, most recently serving as vice president of guest experience at P&O Cruises, with numerous customer operations roles across the brand’s owner Carnival Corporation in the UK and Australia.
RVG said Karlsson will play a ‘key role’ in the development and operation of RVG’s new Thrive Living communities. The first of these ‘whole life net zero’ new communities is set to launch in Chester at the end of 2024, followed by West Byfleet next year and Tunbridge Wells in 2026.

According to RVG, the Thrive Living communities aim to support healthy lifestyles for over-65-year-old residents who want an ‘active, rewarding, and purposeful life’ with personalised support, on-hand when needed.
The company, which is owned by French insurance giant AXA’s real estate arm, plans to deliver more than 5,000 new homes across 40 new sites at an estimated value of £2bn over the next ten years.
Karlsson said: “I’m excited to join Retirement Villages, and I look forward to helping make Thrive Living an industry success story.”
