48,000-home housing association increases completions by 25% but misses original target

Platform Housing Group has recorded its highest-ever annual figure for starts.

The 48,000-home provider in an update said it started work on 1,534 homes in the 12 months to 31 March.

The £300m-turnover group also completed 1,202 homes in the year, an increase of 25% on the 962 in 2022/23. Platform last year said a “significant number of new homes” had been moved to 2023/24 to allow contractors more time to meet its new homes standard.

The total however, was down on the 1,300-home target the provider had been aiming for as recently as February. A spokesperson said this due to a couple of contractor insolvencies.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands-based provider said the group’s land and partnerships team has secured contracts for a further 2,330 homes across 27 sites. Platform is aiming to complete 7,500 homes between 2023 and 2028.

Kate Ellison, director of land, partnerships, new business and innovation said: “The market remains volatile, especially when it comes to securing land but thanks to some fantastic work by our new business team, solutions were found and spades have gone into the ground on key sites across the region.”
