Peabody and Ealing council have signed a deal to build 500 new homes across a regeneration scheme in Southall within five years.

As well as the new homes the development, known as ‘The Green’, will include 50,000m² of commercial space.

According to Peabody half the flats will be affordable, with 145 due to be affordable rent, including social rent, with the balance of the affordable element being shared ownership.

Once a local community consultation exercise has been completed in a few months a planning application will be submitted to the west London local authority before the end of the year.

Building work is expected to start in 2021.

Tony Clements, Ealing council’s executive director for place, said the local authority was committed to delivering 2,500 genuinely affordable homes by 2022, “and working with housing associations that have a strong social conscience, like Peabody, is key to this.

“At Southall Green we will together deliver at least 145 genuinely affordable homes [for local middle and low-income households] as part of the overall plan to ensure people in Southall get access to decent homes and jobs,” Clements added.
