Former Newcastle City Council and Homes and Communities Agency boss appointed to chair funding body by Angela Rayner
Pat Ritchie has been appointed interim chair of Homes England.
The appointment by deputy prime minister Angela Rayner will see Ritchie chair the funding body for up to 18 months to allow time for a new permanent chair to be appointed. Current chair Peter Freeman stands down at the end of April.
Ritchie previously served as chief executive of Homes England’s predecessor body the Homes and Communities Agency from 2010 to 2013 and has been a board member at Homes England since 2022.
Ritchie was previously chief executive of Newcastle City Council and since 2020 has chaired the Government Property Agency.

Matthew Pennycook, housing and planning minister, said: ““I am delighted that Pat has accepted the role of interim chair and I am very much looking forward to working with her in the role.
“Pat commands considerable respect in the sector, brings a wealth of experience from previous roles, and is well-placed to ensure the Agency is effectively supporting the government’s ambitious housing agenda.”
In November Homes England announced former Stockport Council chief executive Eamonn Boylan as its interim chief executive.
This followed the announcement that Peter Denton, along with Freeman, would be leaving their roles following the change in government last summer.
