Landlord appoints former Dundee City Council leader
Hillcrest has appointed former Dundee City Council leader John Alexander as its new chief executive.
The 8,000-home landlord, which is based in Edinburgh, has announced Alexander will join the organisation in the summer, succeeding Angela Linton who is stepping down after 11 years in the role.
Alexander joins Hillcrest from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Transmission, where he has served as head of local authority engagement since last August.
Between 2017 and 2024 Alexander was the leader of Dundee City Council.
He has also served on the board of numerous organisations, including Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Citizens Advice, NHS Tayside and Tay Cities Deal. He also chaired Scottish Cities Alliance, a collaboration of cities working together to boost economic growth.

Dave Boyle, chair of Hillcrest, said: “From the outset, it was clear that he [John] understands the aim of our work—putting people first, investing in our communities, and striving for positive change. We are confident that John will be an excellent Chief Executive.”
John said: “The organisation has a remarkable reputation for providing high-quality housing and a range of vitally important services within our communities, and I am deeply committed to supporting that work.”
