40 factory-built homes form initial phase of regeneration scheme

Port Loop, Birmingham

A mixed development of modular and traditionallynbuilt homes will be going into a development at Port Loop, on the edge of Birmingham’s city centre, backed by a £7.5m loan from Homes England’s Home Building Fund.

The 77 homes will be going into the first phase of the scheme, which will see 1,150 homes on the site.

Eventually more than 3,000 homes will be built at Port Loop, a half-mile canal loop near Birmingham’s city centre, as part of plans by developers Urban Splash and Places for People, working as a joint venture in partnership with Birmingham city council and the Canals & Rivers Trust.

Of the 77 homes going into the scheme 40 will be modular and 37 traditionally built.

Ian Martin, head of investment in the Midlands for Homes England said: “The sheer scale of the scheme provides the opportunity to build a whole new community and will be one of the largest regeneration schemes in the Midlands.

“This will provide a much-needed boost to the region’s housing stock, which is exactly what the Home Building Fund was established to do.”
