Gavin Cansfield will join Moat as chief executive after nine years leading Settle

The 22,000-home housing association, which operates in the south east of England, has recruited Cansfield as permanent boss following the departure of Mary Gibbons in February after little more than a year in the role.

Cansfield will leave his current role as chief executive of 10,000-home Hertfordshire provider Settle later this year to take up the Moat role.

A spokesperson for Settle said Cansfield had “transformed” Settle in his nine years in the role, improving services, increasing development and overseeing its 2030 corporate plan, which contains an aim for Settle to be in the top 25% of landlords for resident satisfaction.

Steve White, chair of Moat said: “Gavin brings a wealth of experience to this role, and we’re delighted to welcome him to Moat.

“He proved to be a stand-out candidate who shares our vision and dedication to achieving excellence in all we do. We look forward to working with him to provide great homes, services, and communities for our customers.”

Cansfield said: “It’s a great honour to lead the Moat team; I look forward to building on everything that’s already been achieved as we work together to deliver an ambitious, customer-focused strategy.”

Moat has been led on an interim basis by Steve Nunn, executive director of development, since March.
