Sheffield-headquartered housebuilder said it was “comfortably on track” to double volumes to 2,000 new homes a year by 2022
MJ Gleeson has revealed it sold its largest number of homes in a single year last year.
The Sheffield-based housebuilder said it handed over the keys to 1,529 new homes in the 12 months to the end of June 2019, an increase of 25% year-on-year.
Gleeson Homes, the firm’s housebuilding operation, builds low-cost homes for sale to people predominantly on low incomes in the north of England and the Midlands.
In a trading update the firm said its land pipeline of owned and conditionally purchased plots at 30 June 2019 rose by 5.6% year-on-year, totalling 13,575 plots, of which 7,050 plots have been purchased subject to planning permission.
A further 473 plots were in the pipeline and had yet to be acquired, it said. The group said it was currently active on 69 sites and anticipates an increase to 80 or more sites during the coming year.
The operation said it was “comfortably on track” to hit its stated target of doubling volumes to 2,000 new homes a year by 2022.
Gleeson’s Strategic Land business sold nine land interests with the potential to deliver 1,755 plots for housing development.
Since the year end, a further nine sites with planning permission, or resolution to grant, had the potential to deliver 2,929 plots for housing development, with three of the sites going through a sales process, while planning decisions were expected on a further six sites.
Gleeson, which announces its results for the year ended 30 June 2019 on Monday, 16 September 2019, posted a 12% hike in pre-tax profit for 2017/18 on turnover that had risen by a quarter.
