Former Redrow chair, who has also held positions at Land Securities and Barratt ,takes up role at £1bn-turnover Scottish housebuilder

Miller Homes has appointed experienced industry figure Richard Akers as its new chair.

Akers, who chaired Redrow until its merger with Barratt last year, has spent his career in property and land acquisition.

He served for 20 years at Land Securities and nearly 10 years in non-executive roles at Barratt.

He is also a director at investment firm Shaftesbury Capital and has been on the board of student accommodation giant Unite Group.

Akers takes over from Chris Endsor, who retires after a 45-year career.

The appointment comes weeks after Miller announced it has agreed a deal to buy £371m-turnover housebuilder St Modwen Homes.

Miller, which is aiming to build 6,000 homes a year, said the deal is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025.
