Joanne Kirrane, currently the executive director of people, homes, and communities at 4,500-home Melin Homes, has been appointed as the group executive director of operations.

Gareth Yeoman-Evans, who is serving as interim deputy chief executive at 10,000-home Newport City Homes (NCH), will take on the role of group executive director of resources.

Peter Crockett has been appointed as group executive director of growth and managing director of Candleston Homes, a subsidiary of Melin Group.

In an update published on Wednesday, Melin Homes said that “with the executive leadership group now fully confirmed, we can pick up the pace with the merger, as we work through how we demonstrate our difference – to the people and places we serve.”

The statement noted that between now and April 2025, the new housing association will continue to be supported by “our other fantastic executive from Melin and NCH”, Sonia Furzland, Matthew Davies and Adrian Huckin.

“We thank them all for their contributions so far and are looking forward to continuing working with them through the next important stages,” the statement added.

In April, Paula Kennedy, the chief executive of Melin Homes, was chosen to lead the new housing association as its chief executive post-merger.

In May, Lynda Sagona was confirmed as chair, and Martin Reed as vice chair of the new association.

The proposed merger of the two organisations was announced in November last year.

In a statement, Newport City Homes explained that merging the two organisations to form a 15,000-home housing association would provide “greater financial capacity and resilience”.

In addition, it said that the merger would allow NCH and Melin Homes to deliver a development programme of 500 sustainable homes, and “the ability to respond better to the challenges being faced by our customers, residents, and communities”.

In April, Pobl Group and Linc Cymru finalised their merger, creating an “expanded group” that now manages more than 23,000 homes in Wales. Linc Cymru is a subsidiary of Pobl Group.

Pobl Group aims to deliver more than 4,500 new homes over the next five years.
