Contractor McLaren’s housebuilding division expects to start work on the £85m scheme i this autumn
Leeds Council has granted McLaren Living planning permission for an £85m built-to-rent residential development of 375 homes.
The housebuilding arm of contractor McLaren expects to start work on the scheme in Beck Yard, Leeds, this autumn.
The new residential development will also deliver 30,000 sq ft of external amenity space and 7,000 sq ft of internal amenity as well as co-working areas. It is part of the city’s £500m South Bank scheme in Leeds city centre that is being regenerated.
Architects firm Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher have designed Beck Yard, which will see a mix of apartments built on a former car park site.
Matthew Biddle, managing director at McLaren Living, said: ““It’s an excellent time to be working in the city. Leeds is one of the UK’s fastest growing cities, forecast to grow by 21% over the next ten years.
“It is rapidly becoming a headquarters location and the arrival of Channel 4, the planned move to the city by the BBC, along with major corporates, demonstrate a bright future.”

The proposed designs include solar PV across the site and connections to local as well as national transport hubs. The proposals include around 220 cycle spaces and 46 car parking spaces, all of which have electric charging points from day one of tenants moving in.
