Development in Thatcham will feature 92 apartments
McCarthy & Stone has started the construction of a £32.2m retirement housing scheme in Berkshire.
The 92-apartment development on a brownfield site in Thatcham, near Newbury, will consist of 52 flats under McCarthy & Stone’s Retirement Living Plus banner, with a mix of self-contained one- and two-bedroom homes and properties with support and care services.
The other 40 apartments will be aimed at the more active older resident.
The development will also feature a range of leisure facilities including a residents’ lounge, a wellness suite and an open-plan bistro.
A range of tenures will be offered across the scheme, and the development’s first residents are expected to move into their new homes in the autumn of next year.
Earlier this year McCarthy & Stone said it planned to increase its use of discounts and part-exchange deals as potential buyers faced problems selling their own properties.
When it announced a half year profit of £3.5m in April the group said it expected the use of discounts and incentives, particularly part-exchange, to continue into the second half of its financial year “to counteract more challenging secondary market conditions”.
The housebuilder is set to announce its results for the year to the end of August in November.
