A £94m regeneration scheme has got underway in Maidenhead which will see more than 200 homes built, at least a third of which will be affordable.

The Royal Borough Development Partnership, a joint venture between housebuilder Countryside and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, is building 229 homes, 68 of which will be affordable – shared ownership, affordable rent and social rent – together with a further 20 affordable homes offered via public subsidy.

The Watermark site being developed is part of the joint venture which aims to revamp four sites in Maidenhead; York Road, Saint-Cloud Way, West Street and Reform Road.

Local housing association Housing Solutions, which owns and manages more than 7,000 homes in Berkshire and Hampshire, will be working with the partnership to identify local people to go into the affordable units.

Orla Gallagher, Housing Solutions’ chief executive, said her organisation was “committed to providing more homes for local people and 88 new homes in the town centre will help us to support more local people achieve their housing ambitions”.

The first homes on the development are expected to be finished by the autumn of next year, while the overall scheme is due to be completed in 2024.
