John Lewis predicts up to 40% of future profits will come from housebuilding

Department store sets target for ’non-retail’ activities, predominantly housing and financial services

Department store John Lewis has said that it expects 40% of its profit to come from non-retail activities including housing within ten years.

The commitment comes after the firm last year said it had identified 20 of its current John Lewis and Waitrose sites on which it will build “quality and sustainable housing” as it seeks to diversify from high street retail activities.
