Kate Henderson, chief executive of the National Housing Federation posting on Twitter, said: “National Housing Federation colleagues and I are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty the Queen, who served the country tirelessly during her 70 year reign. We send our heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time.”

The Home Builders Federation said: “HBF and our members join the country in mourning the death of the Queen. She served our country selflessly for over 70 years and we all send our sympathies to the Royal Family at this time of national mourning.

The G15 group of housing associations in London said it was “deeply saddened” by the Queen’s passing.

It said: “Our thoughts are with the Royal Family, and with all those to whom she meant so much.

Barratt, Britain’s largest housebuilder, said the Queen “has been a source of strength and stability for more than 70 years”. It added: “We join millions around the world in expressing our sadness at her passing, and our gratitude for a lifetime of incredible service.”

Housing association giant L&Q described the Queen’s 70-year reign as “extraordinary” and said it “epitomised fortitude and a life-long devotion to public service.” It added: “She will be mourned and greatly missed by people all around the world.”
