Allies and Morrison-designed mixed use masterplan valued at £1.17bn
Network Rail and Homes England have advertised for a developer to join them and turn vacant land behind York railway station into a mixed-use scheme.
Called York Central, the £1.17bn project will see 45 ha of former railway land transformed to provide 2,500 homes and 800,000 sq ft of commercial space.
The development is set to include a new central hall for the nearby National Railway Museum.

Outline planning permission was granted in 2019 and a reserved matters application approved in 2021 for the first phase of infrastructure work.
In April, the Network Rail and Homes England partnership appointed property agents JLL to find a partner for the brownfield regeneration.
The masterplan for the site was developed by Allies and Morrison, the architecture firm that designed the masterplan for the King’s Cross Central redevelopment.
The contract for the development partnership will run for 10 years from October 2023. Firms have until 25 August to bid.
