Plans will see gasworks site turned into housing.
Homes England and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority have announced a joint £51m investment to build 1,500 homes on derelict land in the Wirral.
Under the ‘strategic place partnership’ announced today the two bodies will fund the first phase of Hind Street Urban Garden Village, a major regeneration project.
Homes England will invest £29m into the project and the combined authority £22m. The funding will be used to deliver infrastructure works for the first 633 homes.
Under the plans a gasworks site will be turned into a new community with 1,500 homes, a new park, transport links and commercial and leisure facilities.
Birkenhead’s gas supply will be moved to another location and the former Rock Ferry to Bidston Dock railway line will be brought back into use.
Under the strategic place partnership model, organisations develop a shared business plan for growth.
