Two schemes delivering more than 900 homes given detailed planning permission
A joint venture including regeneration specialist Scarborough Group International has received permission for two developments delivering more than 900 homes as part of the £1bn Middlewood Locks scheme in Salford.
Fairbriar Developments has received detailed permission for two blocks, of 28 and 32 storeys in height, to provide 659 homes and 1,712sq metres of commercial space.
Salford council’s planning committee also approved plans from for 250 apartments in an L-shaped building ranging from 11 to 15 storeys in height.
The schemes are the latest phases of the Middlewood Locks regeneration project developed around three large basins of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury canals, which connect to the River Irwell
Phases one and two, delivering 1,117 homes have already been completed. Scarborough has also submitted an outline application for a remaining neighbourhood.
Overall, the regeneration scheme is expected to have a gross development value of more than £1 billion, providing 2,215 new homes and 900,000 sq ft of commercial space, including offices, hotels, shops, restaurants and a gym. Beijing Construction Engineering Group International (BCEGI) is the construction partner while Whittam Cox Architects is design partner and Zerum is the scheme’s planning advisor.
Fairborough Developments is a joint venture made up of Scarborough, Singapore-based developer Metro Holdings and Hualing Group, based in Xinjiang, China.
