Grant is on top of £30m the Manchester-based housing association received last year
North west-based housing association Great Places is set to build an extra 534 homes over the next four years after securing £20.5m from Homes England.
The strategic partnership funding is on top of an earlier Homes England grant of £30m which Great Places received in July last year as part of its Wave 1 venture with the government’s housing delivery agency.
The latest funding means Manchester-based Great Places, which operates 19,000 homes in the north west, will be able to build 1,284 additional affordable homes – divided between social rent, affordable rent, rent-to-buy and shared ownership – over the next four years.
The group plans to build more than 8,000 homes over the next decade.
Helen Spencer, Great Places’ development director, said the latest funding round boosted the group’s reputation as one of the leading developers in the north of England.
“The last 12 months has been particularly impressive with the successful early delivery of our first-year commitments as part of our Homes England strategic partnership.
“We have since established the principles to extend the partnership for the benefit of other organisations.”
Spencer said the group’s lead role in a range of sector partnerships including Bloc and Innovation Chain North ha been key to realising its ambitions…“[helping] to deliver our commitment to build new houses, help meet housing targets and enable growth and new home delivery by other housing associations working in the same regions we operate in”.
