The £345m-turnover has announced the appointment of Morris, who has held previously held roles at Redrow and Barratt, as it aims over time for 3,000 completions a year.

Morris has more than 20 years of experience working for a major housebuilder. During his tenure at Redrow Homes, Wayne served as construction director and operations director the housebuilder’s Yorkshire and Lancashire businesses respectively.

Before that he worked as construction manager and contracts manager at Barratt.

Mark Knight, chief executive at Gleeson Homes, said: “Wayne’s skills, expertise and extensive knowledge of construction processes will play a critical role in improving our build quality and operational efficiencies. We have no doubt that he will deliver impact for our teams and provide the necessary direction to optimise our construction processes.

“We are confident that Wayne is the right person drive performance across the business, and he has my and the Board’s full support in his new role.”

Gleeson, which has undergone a restructuring over the past two years, reported a 5% increase in turnover in the year to June to £345m. Its pre-tax profit slipped 21% to £25m after it was hit with just over £1m of exceptional costs, the bulk of which saw it spend £975,000 on redundancy costs.

In a trading update last week, Gleeson said its interim results for the first half of its current reporting year, due next month, will be line with analysts’ expectations, pointing to a consensus pre-tax profit figure of £27.9m for the full-year.

The group has a strategy of increasing completions to 3,000 homes a year. In November it said it expects to deliver 1,862 homes in the year to June 2025, and said last month it completed 801 in the first six months.
