Approval comes despite firm pledging to scale back London work in the wake of the pandemic
Redrow has been given planning for the next tranche of homes at its scheme in Colindale, north-west London, that will eventually be its only site in the capital.
The scheme is part of the Colindale Gardens masterplan, close to the RAF Museum, which was launched in 2016 and which will include a new primary school, health centre, shops and restaurants when complete.
The GLA has now given the green light for 1,200 homes to be built at the site, bringing the number up to 4,000, with the latest set consisting of a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with 35% being affordable.
Last summer, Redrow said it was scaling back its London business, set up in 2011, on the basis that home buyers since lockdown had been displaying a “desire for more inside and outside space, wanting to live closer to green spaces and having better home workspace”.
The decision came after the firm appointed Richard Akers as its new non-executive chairman to replace the outgoing John Tutte. The former Landsec executive director joins at the beginning of next month with Tutte, who has been on the Redrow board for nearly 20 years, leaving after the firm’s annual results announcement on 15 September.
