Homes England signs second large contract with firm soon to be owned by Bovis

Galliford Try’s partnerships arm, which is in the process of being bought by Bovis, has been awarded a £23m Homes England contract to build 600 new homes near Kidderminster.

Last week Galliford Try announced it had agreed to sell its housebuilding operation Linden Homes and Galliford Try Partnerships to Bovis for just under £1.1bn.

That deal followed two months of negotiations between the two firms, which once completed early next year will create a top five housebuilding operation.

The Kidderminster contract, gained through Homes England’s Delivery Partner Panel 3, will see the homes built on the site of the former Lea Castle mental hospital (pictured).

The government agency gained a resolution to grant planning consent for the site, which became potentially vacant after the NHS shuttered the hospital 11 years ago, in November 2018.

The homes will cover a range of types and tenures, as well as landscaping improvements.

The Lea Castle hospital scheme is the second deal the housebuilder has signed with Homes England, after it agreed back in April to build 850 homes for the agency

On that deal Galliford Try Partnerships will deliver 360 homes in Redcar, north Yorkshire, 330 homes in Sandymoor, Runcorn, including a 100 home extra-care development, 116 homes in Cannock, Staffordshire, and 60 homes in Blandford Forum, Dorset.
