Approval for 272-home city centre development on landmark site
Galliford Try has won planning permission for a new 272-home build-to-rent scheme in Cardiff city centre.
The scheme, part of Cardiff Council’s proposed Canal Quarter regeneration plans, will provide one and two-bedroom flats.
The facades of the original Victorian terraced housing, which has been largely demolished, will be retained in the new development, which will also include 380 square metres of commercial floorspace.
The council planning meeting paper said: “The proposal delivers a significant number of residential units in a highly sustainable location on brownfield land.
“The retention of the Guildford Crescent façades will bring the site back into beneficial use, providing an active frontage that will help create vibrancy and activity at street level.
“The public realm improvements that have been required as a condition will provide an enhancement to the setting of the listed building. “
Galliford Try sold the majority of its housebuilding business to Bovis Homes in January 2020. Bovis took on Galliford developer Linden Homes along with its affordable housing partnerships business, and later renamed them as Vistry Group.
However, Galliford Try is still involved in developing some BTR developments.
