Industry stalwart also had senior roles at Berkeley and Cala and was active in the HBF for over 40 years
The Home Builders’ Federation has led tributes to former Crest Nicholson chief executive Mike Freshney, who died last week.
Freshney worked at Crest Nicholson for 28 years until 1997, after which he spent four years as a director at Berkeley Group, before pursuing non-executive roles at the NHBC, Cala, the housebuilding Consumer Code, and, latterly, housing charity Habitat for Humanity.
Freshney, (pictured) was also involved in the Home Builders’ Federation for 43 years, from 1972 until 2015.
The HBF said Freshney had passed away while on holiday in Barbados last week.
HBF executive chair Stewart Baseley said he was “deeply shocked” by the “terrible news”, describing Freshney as a tireless servant of the industry and a “thoroughly decent gentlemen.”
He said: “I have known Mike for over 40 years. He was my first boss when I joined Crest Homes in the early 1980s.
“He was a director of HBF for many years and served on the Consumer Code for Home Builders and Robust Details. He was also a passionate supporter of industry charity Habitat for Humanity. My thoughts are with his wife Joan and his family and friends.”
