Four factory-built modular townhouses have gone up at a site in Corby
Time-lapse footage has revealed how four modular town houses, built by Project Etopia at its factory in Ellesmere Port, were erected in 34 days at a new housing scheme in Corby, Northamptonshire.
The 47-home factory-built development is being built at Priors Hall Park in the town, comprising 31 houses and 16 apartments.
Project Etopia bought the site last year from the previous owners Electric Corby, who couldn’t find building firms able to meet the proposed scheme’s eco-standards, and began groundworks in December.
The homes’ exterior shells are manufactured in the Cheshire factory and transported to the site. The finished apartments and houses are equipped with the group’s e-smart technology, allowing residents greater control over utilities and devices including window blinds.
Joseph Daniels, Project Etopia’s chief executive, said: “These homes have shot out of the ground. It’s an immensely proud moment because these are the first non-demonstration homes that we have built and they were ahead of schedule and on budget.
“They’re a wonderful example of how modular building will provide luxury, desirable homes for everyone with cost, labour and time savings keeping prices at an affordable level.
The scheme has been chosen by BEIS as one of five Building for 2050 research projects funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Project Etopia said its factory was currently capbale of producing 2,000 homes a year and expects to treble that figure in the near future.
