Swan Housing and Urban Catalyst first phase to be completed by 2022
Thurrock Council has granted planning permission for 61 homes near Purfleet train station in Essex.
The project will be completed by Purfleet Centre Regeneration Limited (PCRL), a joint venture between Swan Housing Association and Urban Catalyst.
The new homes mark the first phase of the £1bn regeneration of the town centre and will range from two to four bedrooms, with up to 30% available to buy under shared ownership.
This phase will also include more than 94 parking spaces, a children’s play area, orchard walk and reinstate public access to Hollow Woods, forming part of the 2.36-hectare development.
Outline planning permission for the £1bn masterplan was granted by the council in April 2019 and work on the 61 homes is due to start within the next six months.
In addition to housing, the redevelopment of Purfleet town centre will provide local shops, a supermarket, a primary school, a health centre, leisure facilities, plus rail, transport and flood defence improvements.
PCLR will also develop a media village and entertainment studios alongside the residential area.
The studios will employ around 2,000 people and host some of the largest production companies in the world, together with post-production, multimedia and video gaming firms.
The first phase is expected to be completed by 2022 and the whole development finished by 2034.
