Next phase of scheme which Mace won last week coming up for grabs
More firms are eyeing the next phase of work at the Nine Elms site in Vauxhall, south London, where contractor Mace last week picked up a near-£500m job to build nearly 1,000 apartments for Chinese developer R&F Properties.
The firm won the first phase of work at the Nine Elms Square project, which is being built on a stretch of land next to the new US embassy (pictured) at Nine Elms.
Mace is building three SOM-designed towers between 36 and 54 storeys high and featuring 800 apartments for R&F under a management contract, and already firms are looking at the next phase of the job which has a similar £500m price tag.
The first phase has a gross development value of £480m with the entire Nine Elms Square scheme set to consist of 12 buildings and close to 2,000 homes.
Housing Today’s sister title Building understandfs Laing O’Rourke and JRL Group are in the running for the second phase.
Designed by US architect SOM, the three buildings Mace is delivering will range from 36 to 54 storeys and will provide 880 apartments running across 11,555m². SOM is also behind the second phase.
Other firms working on the both phases of the scheme include M&E consultant Hoare Lea, facades consultant Arup and cost and project manager Turner & Townsend.
Nine Elms Square is being built next door to Multiplex’s One Nine Elms, which has been designed by another US architect, KPF, and involves two towers of 56 and 42 storeys. It has a construction value of more than £650m.
R&F is also developing the Queen’s Square site in Croydon, which includes the former Nestlé UK headquarters building, after buying it from Delancey in spring 2017.
