How the development at One Medlock in Manchester will look like

Hospitality business Whitebread and developer Dominvs Group have submitted a planning application for an office and 1,014 student rooms in Manchester.

The proposals are to redevelop Deansgate Premier Inn at One Medlock into a mixed-use scheme, including a 37-storey purpose-built student accommodation block and a 13-storey building for office space.

Jay Ahluwalia, principal director at Dominvs Group, said: “We’ve worked in partnership with Whitbread to create a mixed-use scheme that will provide an attractive, sustainable and well-connected hub for work, study and living in a huge boost to Manchester’s Southern Gateway.

“While contributing to the continued regeneration of the First Street area through new community amenities and green spaces, One Medlock will provide much-needed student housing in a city where over 50,000 students lack access to purpose-built accommodation.”

Richard Pearson, senior development manager at Whitbread, added: “The team has worked extremely hard to produce this proposal having engaged with the public and we are proud to be a part of the regeneration and continued growth of Manchester.”

The plans were designed by local architecture studio Jon Matthew Architects and submitted after a public consultation.

It is expected the development will support 475 jobs and will boost productivity by £198 million during construction.

Yesterday Dominvs announced it had appointed former Berkeley Group executive director Sean Ellis as a non-executive director.
