All 303 build-to-rent homes will be privately let

Chilterns Shopping Centre in High Wycombe will be demolished to make way for two residential blocks, with the rear buildings fronting Frogmoor, Church Street and Queen Street heading for partial demolition.

The two new buildings will range from four to ten storeys and be separated by a new pedestrian street providing seating and planting areas.

The scheme was unanimously approved by Buckinghamshire Council’s West Area planning committee last week. However, the report to the committee cites the absence of affordable housing as a negative aspect as all the one to three-bedroom homes will be privately let.

Shared amenities such as social and workspaces, external terraces, 24/7 onsite management, a concierge and residents lounge are included in the project, alongside car and cycle parking and new public realm.

Designed by Aros Architects and landscape architect Define, the “inherently sustainable” scheme involves “bringing various heritage assets back into purposeful residential and commercial use,” according to Dandara.

Rachel Allwood, planning director at the housebuilder said: “We’re delighted the redevelopment of the Chilterns Shopping Centre has been approved by Buckinghamshire Council.

“It will play a key role in the significant transformation this part of the town centre and will hopefully act as a catalyst for further investment into the town. It has been a long pre-application process to get to this stage and we thank all stakeholders involved in the engagement to date.”
