Birmingham-based developer Cordia Blackswan says tower will tallest in the city
Developer Cordia Blackswan is seeking planning permission for a mixed use scheme branded ‘Act One’, including a 50-storey, 170m residential and commercial tower.
The Birmingham-based developer said the build-to-rent tower on the site, known as Chung Ying Plaza, will be the tallest in the city, if it gets permission.
The development, which it describes as a low-carbon village, is intended to regenerate an under-utilised area of Southside in the city. The scheme will include public space, with floor 48 of the tower a 360-degree observation deck.
Marcus Hawley, managing director at Cordia Blackswan, said: “Build to rent properties contribute to Birmingham’s reputation as one of the primary locations in the UK for rental opportunities, and the rental sector plays a significant part in building communities and creating sustainable neighbourhoods.
“Act One will take the traditional BTR model to new heights in terms of quality, the level of facilities and the opportunity for interaction and engagement between residents.”
Cordia Blackswan is planning for Act One, which will be in Thorp Street near the Birmingham Hippodrome, to have a high-performance façade, passive design measures, natural ventilation and a connection to Birmingham District Energy Scheme (BDES).
