Williamson steps into role while professional body seeks to fill position on permanent basis
Rachael Williamson has been appointed interim director of policy, communication and public affairs at the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH)
Williamson, who has worked for the CIH as head of policy and external affairs since 2021, will step up to the role for around six months while the institute carries out a process to fill the position on a permanent basis.
In her interim role, Williamson will be responsible for enhancing and developing CIH’s “presence, voice and influence”. This includes managing CIH’s work on policy, communications, lobbying, influencing, campaigning, public affairs and stakeholder partnerships.
Gavin Smart, chief executive of the CIH said: “Following a successful internal recruitment process we are delighted that Rachael Wiliamson has been appointed as interim director of policy, communications and external affairs. Since joining CIH three years ago Rachael has been leading our policy and practice work in England as head of policy and external affairs as well as recently overseeing our member engagement work.”
Williamson succeeds James Prestwich, who departed the organisation last month.
Prestwich told Housing Today that “it was the right time to move on and pursue other opportunities.”
Smart said: “We are very grateful for James’ contribution during that time and wish him the very best for his future career.”
