The membership body for housing professionals said that the board will support its existing work on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and help set the strategic direction for all future CIH EDI activity.

The CIH’s current initiatives include an internal, member-led EDI group composed of individuals from diverse backgrounds to drive positive change within the CIH and the housing sector.

The CIH has signed up to the Race Equality Code, an accountability framework that evaluates how race equality is being embedded within the organisation.

As a signatory, the CIH reports on its actions to support race equality and provides education and training to address unconscious bias to its members and the sector.

Additionally, the CIH is a member of the Housing Diversity Network, a social enterprise that promotes EDI through training, consultancy, and mentoring for housing professionals.

Callum Chomczuk, EDI lead at CIH and national director of CIH Scotland said that the CIH has made progress on EDI in recent years, but believes that the establishment of an EDI board “is essential to drive continuous improvements both within CIH and across the profession.”

Chomczuk added: “To make the board a success we need input from the sector. We want our new EDI board to reflect both the diversity of the profession and reflect the nations and region of the UK.

“I encourage anyone that is passionate about EDI and would like to contribute to the future of EDI in the housing profession to apply.”

Applications will remain open until 20 September.

The application pack with more details and information on how to apply can be found on CIH’s website: https://www.cih.org/publications/edi-board-recruitment-pack-2024
