The government has announced an enormous rescue package for self-employed people impacted by coronavirus, claimed by the chancellor to be “one of the most generous in the world”.

Closely resembling the support package offered to workers in regular employment unveiled last week, the government has promised to give self-employed people 80% of the average monthly profits they have earned over the past three years, up to £2,500 a month.
