Homelessness charity to build 300 homes for young homeless people
Housing charity Centrepoint has embarked upon a £15m programme to build 300 modular homes in London and Manchester to house homeless young people.
The charity says it wants to get the £50,000 homes in place by 2021 as part of the largest ever capital investment plan in its 50-year history.
In a statement, the organisation said it was already working with landowners to identify potential sites for the homes, which would be let to homeless people at rents of no more than a third of their income.
Centrepoint chief executive, Seyi Obakin, said the plan had been drawn up to mark the 50th anniversary of the charity, which was set up to eradicate youth homelessness, this year.
“Over the coming months we are looking forward to building new partnerships with landowners, potential funders, and politicians to turn these ambitious plans into reality for the homeless young people we support,” she said.
