North east housing association kicks off search for firm to build 60 homes
Bernicia Housing Association has launched a search for a contractor to build 60 homes, the majority of which will be for affordable rent, in Cramlington, Northumberland.
The group said a tender process was underway and it had applied for planning permission from Northumberland county council for the £9m scheme.
Building work is anticipated to start in October this year, dependent on planning being granted, with completion expected in the spring of 2021.
The two-acre development will comprise 48 two-bedroom apartments offered at affordable rent for the elderly, with flexible care accommodation including extensive communal facilities.
Ashington-headquartered Bernicia, which owns and manages 14,000 homes in the north east, said rent levels for the new homes would be set “within the reach of local people”.
There will also be four two-bedroom apartments and eight two-bedroom bungalows for shared ownership and targeted towards the elderly or people requiring level access accommodation.
