Stevenage borough council is on the hunt for contractors to build more than 200 homes in the south of the Hertfordshire town.

The £40m mixed-use job will see 236 homes for affordable rent and private sale built in two phases across a site which currently features a number of shops and an abandoned housing block.

As well as the new homes contractors will build a new community centre, four shops, a restaurant and health and beauty centre, according to an OJEU notice published this week.

Successful tenders will also be required to create amenity space, landscaping, and carry out work to improve existing services and access roads.

The first phase will see 176 homes built, along with the community and retail assets.

Phase two will cover the remaining 60 homes.

Around 100 homes of the total number being built will be for private sale.

Once contractors have been appointed work is expected to take four years to complete.
