‘Largest new town since Milton Keynes’ planned by Homes England
Plans for 4,000 homes as part of the Northstowe new town in Cambridgeshire have been granted outline planning permission.
Homes England, which is acting as master developer on the mammoth project, was last Friday given the green light for the penultimate phase of the scheme, which is expected to eventually deliver 10,000 homes overall.
Planners approved 4,000 new homes, a mixed-use centre, two primary schools play and recreation spaces across 210 hectares.
Homes England also secured £123m of funding to deliver the homes along with infrastructure, including roads, cycleways and public transport routes. Homes England said the infrastructure is vital to opening up earlier 5,100-home phases at Northstowe, which it describes as the “largest new town since Milton Keynes”.

Christopher Pincher, housing minister, said: “It is crucial to our levelling up mission that we build the high-quality homes this country needs, where we need them. So I am very pleased that thousands of families will have the opportunity to rent or buy a new home in Cambridgeshire and enjoy the cycleways, green space and schools that will be provided for them in Northstowe.”
A final phase to provides a further 1,000 homes, primary school and mixed-use commercial zone, as well as a communal area, across 47 hectares (116 acres) will be considered at a later date.
