Dacorum Borough Council approves Countryside and Homes England scheme
Plans for 276 homes built using various methods of modern construction (MMC) have been approved by Dacorum Borough Council in Herfordshire.
The Countryside and Homes England project, which was granted approval last week, will see homes built using a range of methods including modular, panellised and enhanced traditional construction on phase two of the Spencer’s Park scheme in Hemel Hempstead.
Each method’s performance will be contrasted and compared over time. It is one of eight sites including in Homes England’s MMC Research Commission, which aims to improve industry understanding of new build technologies.
The homes at Spencer’s Park, designed by HTA Design, will be 35% affordable and be a mix of one, two, three and four bed properties. HTA said biodiversity on the site will increase by 22% due to the introduction of 346 new trees, as well as bird and bat boxes, and new hedgehog routes.
Simon Toplis, partner at HTA Design, said: “The development will play a vital part in advancing the sector’s understanding of MMC through Homes England’s Research Commission, whilst also delivering a fantastic place to live where access to nature is prioritised – truly bringing nature home.”
Daniel Layton, managing director, Partnerships North London at Countryside, said: “Our commitment to delivering homes through modern methods of construction is unwavering as we compile valuable data within the MMC research programme. Undoubtedly this will be part of the blueprint going forward when it comes to building for the future.”
Alison Crofton, development director at Homes England, said: “We look forward to seeing the site develop and the data gathered on site supporting the sector’s understanding of MMC.”
