Newham Council rejects call for financial review of regeneration project after £320m cost increase

A committee of councillors has called for review of financing strategies for the £1.4bn Carpenters Estate project

Newham Council’s executive has rejected a call by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC) for an independent financial review of it 2000-home scheme in Stratford.

The council has identified a £320m increase in the amount it will be required to borrow for the delivery of the £1.4bn Carpenters Estate regeneration project since the cabinet approved the commencement of the design of its first three phases in September 2023.
